Very moving, and this is what made Johnny Carson so real. He doesn’t say a word, just reaches over to touch Stewart. Leno is incapable of not entirely ruining such a moment. Letterman is the only one who gets it, and the demographics have changed so much that the point is moot.
Seriously, this is what being a fan is all about. If I ever hear someone again say, “I’m a casual fan,” I’ll punch em in the nose. I hate the Yankees, The Cowboys, and Duke, but I’m ever so grateful that they exist. The pain they have caused me, great pain I might add, has been more than worth the joy when they lose. This is what gives life meaning. If you don’t get why this competitiveness is so essential, such an important part of life, I feel sorry for you. And oh, chew your granola on the sidelines. They rest of us are playing thru.
